Be prepared to roll up your sleeves for this 5 hour day.

Participants are in for a great day of Making! The “Maker Movement” has taken the US by storm, and has fueled a new way of teaching. By combining design thinking and project based learning, students are able to be immersed into a new way to learn. Maker Depot Academy, with its dedicated staff and certified teachers, will provide a window into this movement and introduce you to the concept.

Agenda:

8:30 – 9:00: Sign-in

9:00 – 12:00: Attendees will be broken up into 5 small teams. Each team will rotate through 35 minute sessions designed to introduce four of the most popular Maker tools:

3D Design/Printing
Laser Cutting/Etching
Woodworking – Design and Tools
Raspberry Pi – Electronics and Coding

These technologies embrace multiple disciplines which can be easily integrated into current activities. The fifth session will be called Making 101 and will a bit more of an overview of Making and MakerSpaces in general.

12:00 – 1:00 Lunch On Your Own

1:00 – 2:30: Attendees will again break up into teams and put their creativity to the test. By using a “Design Thinking” approach, the teams will need work together to solve different problems. Teams will have access to all of the makerspaces resources as well as a container of pre-created objects, household items and even cardboard. Each team will also have experienced Makers and Teachers to help if they get stuck or require some additional help.

2:30 – 3:00: Once completed, each team will then give a 5 minute presentation on their problem and solution, and sell the concept to the rest of the group.
